Weather warning for Tuesday: Heavy rain and possible tornadoes with the remnants of Beryl |

We are activating a Weather Advisory for Tuesday due to the possibility of heavy rain/flooding as well as the possibility of a few brief tornadoes associated with the remnants of Hurricane Beryl.

A Flood Warning is in effect for all of SEMO and S. IL and several counties in KY from Tuesday through Wednesday morning. The heaviest rain from these systems typically falls along and west of the center, which will be in MO and IL…up to 2-4 inches, locally higher totals possible. Flash flooding is possible in flood-prone and low-lying areas. A lot of moisture will move in with this system, so heavy tropical downpours will likely occur.

There is also a risk of a few brief, spinning tornadoes along and east of the center of Beryl’s track. This system will move through our area during the peak of warming in the afternoon, bringing with it a lot of unstable air and a fair amount of wind shear. Tornadoes in tropical systems are usually short-lived and not as strong as those we see in supercells, but can still cause damage. The main danger is in the afternoon and early evening. An isolated, destructive, straight-line wind gust is also possible with any severe thunderstorm.

As this storm moves across the area, gusty winds may be possible. Occasional gusts up to 25-35 mph are possible Tuesday afternoon into the early hours of Wednesday morning.
