Two dead in separate accidents over the weekend in the north of the state

Two people were killed in separate crashes in the northern part of the state over the weekend, the latest occurring just before 1 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Routes 54 and 642 near Danville.

State police said 64-year-old Richard Heath of Danville was killed when he veered his northbound vehicle into the path of a car driven by Chad Knauer of Milton.

Heath was taken to nearby Geisinger Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2:16 p.m., according to Montour County Coroner Scott Lynn. State police did not say whether Knauer was injured.

A Montoursville-area woman was killed and her husband injured in an accident Saturday evening in Lycoming County.

Kathleen McFadden, 65, died of blunt force injuries in the head-on collision, said coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr. She was trapped in the wreckage, he said.

She was a passenger in a northbound car driven by her husband, Mark K. McFadden, on two-lane Route 87 in Upper Fairfield Twp., north of Montoursville, state police said.

The accident occurred around 8 p.m. when a southbound Jeep driven by a 17-year-old Reading boy attempted to pass another vehicle, police said.

Both drivers tried to avoid the accident but ended up on the same shoulder and collided, it was said.

The teenager, whose name was not released, and his passenger, 18-year-old Sarah Anderson, also from Reading, were treated at the scene.

Mark McFadden was reported in good condition at Geisinger on Sunday.
