Family pleads for justice after woman killed in hit-and-run in Russell

Destinee Marshall, with her mother beside her, remembers the moment a night of partying took a tragic turn. On Saturday, just before midnight, 26-year-old Desiree’ Marshall was struck by a driver near the intersection of 16th and Jefferson who kept driving, according to her family. “All I remember is a white car,” Destinee Marshall said. “The windows were tinted black. You couldn’t see through the car at all. And it all happened so fast.” Officers performed life-saving measures on her until EMS arrived and took her to UofL Hospital. She later died in the hospital, leaving her family heartbroken. “Pretty stressful. Everyone is still in shock. It seems unreal,” Destinee Marshall said. The family describes Desiree’ as the life of the party who was always laughing, dancing and had a lively personality. Now they’re hoping for justice and for anyone with information to come forward. “They could have gone around the fireworks or her. “To just hit her and keep driving doesn’t make sense. Knowing the kind of person she is, she didn’t deserve this,” Destinee Marshall said. The LMPD’s traffic unit is leading the investigation and is asking anyone with information about the vehicle that killed the woman to contact them. Anyone with information is asked to call the anonymous Crime Tip Hotline at 502-574-LMPD (5673) or use LMPD’s online Crime Tip Portal.
