Coroner identifies 2 dead in Mandeville shooting | Crime/Police

A man and woman killed in a chaotic police-involved shootout in Mandeville were identified Sunday by the St. Tammany Parish coroner’s office as 46-year-old David Vang and 48-year-old Laina Lee.

Vang and Lee were shot and killed Friday during a welfare check by Mandeville police. Officers were dispatched to a home in the 700 block of Heavens Drive that same evening, where they found Lee screaming.

When Lee ran outside to tell police that a man was threatening her, Vang appeared and shot Lee multiple times, according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.

A shocked Vang with a taser after ordering him to drop his weapon. As Vang pointed the gun at the officer, another opened fire on Vang.

Both Vang and Lee were taken to a hospital where they later died.
