Police arrived at the scene after receiving calls about an active shooter. When they arrived, shooting was still going on. At least four people were found dead at the scene, with many more injured.

Garvey then fled the scene in a car, prompting a police chase. He then shot himself and his car fell into a ditch on Dale Heimbrock Way near Hicks Pike. Police found him with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“This is the first time there has been a mass shooting in Florence”

The four dead were identified as Delaney Eary, 19, Hayden Rybicki, 20, Melissa Parrett, 44, and Shane Miller, 20. The party was held at Parrett’s home for her 21-year-old child. Mallery said Garvey knew the partygoers but was not invited to the party. A motive for the crime is still unclear.

“We’ve never dealt with anything like this before and now it’s going around the nation, but this is the first time we’ve had a mass shooting in Florence, so yes, it’s very emotional,” Mallery said.

“We are preparing for this and hope that something like this never happens, but unfortunately, like so many other offices and cities, we are also affected,” he added.

The three injured victims were taken to a local hospital. Their condition is currently critical but stable and they are expected to make a full recovery.
