Houston Texans place two players in Pro Football Focus’ top 32 wide receivers in 2024

The Houston Texans did that work this offseason, building one of the best rosters in the entire league through trades, free agency, and the NFL Draft. By the end of the 2023 season, those who care about the NFL have started to respect what the Houston Texans have built in such a short period of time, and now, after their strong offseason, those same people are positioning the Texans as a legitimate contender in 2024.

Much of the Texans’ success in 2024 will depend on how their offense performs after the unit’s shocking explosion a year ago. The Texans’ offense thrived in 2023, and in 2024, it should be even better after adding more star players at skill positions.

The Texans’ talent pool is dogs, which is exactly why two Houston receivers are on Pro Football Focus’ top 32 WRs list heading into the 2024 season.

Newly acquired veteran Stefon Diggs is the 11th-best receiver heading into 2024 after arriving from Buffalo, behind Deebo Samuel and ahead of DJ Moore.

“Stefon Diggs is coming off a tough second half of the season and is 30 years old. On the other hand, he is coming off a dominant season with over 1,400 receiving yards and a 90.1 overall rating. With more help around him in Houston, one of the craftiest veterans in the league could have a bounce-back season.”

Diggs had a wild start to the 2023 season before a changing of the guard at offensive coordinator took away much of his production midway through the season.

However, Diggs has now reached the 1,000-yard mark for the sixth straight season. Diggs has been around the league for quite some time now, so it will be up to him to maintain his level of play and regain his place among the league’s top 10 receivers.

It will be a challenge for the aforementioned wide receiver as he will have to battle for targets from second-year WR Tank Dell and PFF’s 15th-best WR in 2024 – recently re-signed Nico Collins.

“Nico Collins had a phenomenal breakout last season with CJ Stroud throwing him the ball. He trailed only Tyreek Hill in yards per carry (3.10) and caught over 50 percent of his contested targets.”

Collins has proven himself to be one of the best players in the league in a big way since his 2023 opening night, once Tank Dell went down with an injury. He became the fourth Texans receiver to reach 1,000 receiving yards in franchise history.

Much like with Diggs, we know what to expect with Collins, but there are a lot of mouths to feed between those two. With Dell returning from injury, TE Dalton Schultz returning, and RB Joe Mixon added, there will be plenty of targets to share.

If Collins and Diggs can replicate what they did last season, then the Texans’ offense should be firing on all cylinders, giving them a fantastic chance to continue where they left off in 2023 with the hopes of reaching Super Bowl LIX.
