The government should show zero tolerance towards rape

From January to May 2024, 201 women and children were raped, including 50 victims of gang rape. Tragically, 9 victims died as a result and 2 committed suicide. In addition, 44 people were victims of attempted rape and 17 boys were also victims of rape.
Despite these alarming statistics, society often blames women for their behavior, clothing and movements when they become victims of rape. However, there are no answers as to why old women above 80, 4-month-old infants or schoolgirls in madrassas are raped. What is their fault?
The government claims to have passed laws against rape and gang rape, but these measures appear to be ineffective. The road to justice is long and full of challenges, making it almost impossible for many victims and their families.
Beyond legislation, the government’s primary responsibility should be to protect women and children. Law enforcement must be strict enough to deter potential perpetrators. The current number of rapists shows that “zero tolerance” is just a phrase.
Traumatized victims who report their assaults are harassed, highlighting the need for systemic change. This change should begin in families, where girls are often taught to behave well, but boys receive only a fraction of that guidance.
