Wanted Houston man arrested in Stanton County | News

The Stanton County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man wanted in Texas on Friday who is believed to be in the United States illegally.

Around 3 p.m., the sheriff’s office stopped a car traveling south on Interstate 15, about 8 miles south of Pilger, for speeding, Sheriff Mike Unger said in a news release. The driver, Delvin Eberado Velasquez-Romero, 32, of Houston, reportedly did not have a driver’s license and had fictitious Texas transit stickers on his vehicle.

Further investigation revealed that Velasquez-Romero was wanted on five felony charges in Benton County, Indiana. Velasquez-Romero spoke limited English and his identity was confirmed using a mobile fingerprint instrument at the scene, Unger said.

He was jailed on a felony warrant pending extradition proceedings to Indiana. The sheriff said he believed Velasquez-Romero was in the United States illegally.

“This is an example of the hard work of a deputy on patrol in a remote part of the county, doing what he was hired and trained to do,” Unger said.
