5 teens arrested after stolen car chase ends in crash into Medford fence – Boston 25 News

MEDFORD, Massachusetts – Authorities arrested five teens on July 4 for allegedly leading police on a chase in a stolen car and causing an accident in a residential area.

According to Medford police, they received a call around 11 a.m. from an employee at DICK’s Sporting Goods on Mystic Valley Parkway reporting several suspects for shoplifting. The suspects then fled in a vehicle on Riverside Avenue. It is unknown how much merchandise was stolen.

The employee gave police the vehicle’s license plate number and dispatchers determined it had been stolen early that morning in Belmont.

Officers responding to the call found the car on Riverside Avenue and activated their hazard lights to stop the vehicle.

According to police, the car fled at a high rate of speed onto Commercial Street and then onto Route 16 westbound. The vehicle continued onto Winthrop Street and then onto High Street, where it eventually crashed into a fence on Alto Drive, a dead-end street.

Two juvenile suspects were arrested in the vehicle while three others fled the scene, officials said. One suspect was arrested shortly afterward, while officials later located the other two suspects hiding in the area.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Susan Sarno says she was at home when the teenagers drove their car into her fence.

“It was terrible,” she said. “Totally unexpected.”

Sarno told reporters she was grateful that no one was injured in the accident because it could have been much worse.

“My neighbor has a baby,” she said. “Thank God they were gone. There are all these things that could have happened but didn’t happen.”

Charges are currently being brought against the five teenagers.
