Passenger arrested after flight layover at Buffalo airport

A passenger was arrested Wednesday after an American Airlines flight made an unscheduled landing at Buffalo Niagara International Airport, U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross said.

Neil McCarthy, 25, of Oregon, was escorted off the plane by Niagara Frontier Transit Authority police at Gate 2 and charged by criminal complaint with indecent exposure.

He was released on bail after appearing before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeremiah H. McCarthy. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of six months in prison and a $5,000 fine.

According to the complaint, McCarthy was arrested after a flight attendant identified a man who had exposed himself and urinated in the aisle of the plane, which was en route to Manchester-Boston Regional Airport in Manchester, N.H.
