13 Cities Around Metro Atlanta Celebrate July 4th – WABE

The 4th of July is just around the corner, and Atlanta isn’t the only city celebrating! Cities and towns across the metro area are celebrating another year of Independence Day events.

Here’s a look at the festive events happening across the region.

Events take place on July 4th unless otherwise noted.

Avondale Estates

The city’s Fourth of July parade will begin at 10 a.m. at Berkeley Road and Clarendon Avenue. Those wishing to participate in the parade are asked to arrive at the DeKalb School of the Arts lawn no later than 9:30 a.m.

Later in the evening, a fireworks display is scheduled on the Town Green at 7 p.m. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from a variety of local vendors, including Taylor’d BBQ, Smileys Burger Club and Banjo Coffee.

Alpharetta

If you’re looking for fireworks, fun, and a chance to relax with family and friends, Wills Park may be the perfect 4th of July hangout!

Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets, food and drinks to enjoy the park’s nightly fireworks show, scheduled for 9:15 p.m.

Chamblee

Beginning at 6:30 p.m., music will kick off the holidays into the night with Chamblee’s July Summer Concert Series, held on the Chamblee City Hall lawn. The event will feature performances by popular Atlanta artists The Ansley Stewart Band and The Platinum Band.

In addition to the series, food and beverage vendors will be on hand leading up to a special holiday fireworks show, scheduled to take place on the lawn at 9:30 p.m.

Decatur

Add even more fun to the Pied Piper Parade, where residents can bike, march and dance through downtown Decatur. Participants are asked to arrive at First Baptist Church of Decatur at 5:30 p.m.

Following the parade, residents will enjoy a concert by the MetroGnomes on the Decatur Square bandstand at 7 p.m. The show will be followed by a fireworks display on the square at 9 p.m.

Dunwoody

The festivities begin early in the day as Dunwoody residents invite you to join in a holiday celebration centered around the theme “Red, White and You.”

Sponsored by the Dunwoody Homeowners Association, the 2.7-mile route, dubbed “Georgia’s Largest Independence Day Parade” by the association, kicks off at 9 a.m. Then, a community picnic is planned immediately following the parade starting at 11:30 a.m., with barbecue appetizers, burgers and frozen treats available.

Kennesaw

The city of Kennesaw, which will begin its holiday celebrations a day early, will host a Salute to America event in the city’s downtown historic district. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m., with fireworks closing out the evening at 9:30 p.m.

On July 3, the Southern Museum will also host “Southern Spirits,” an event featuring food and live music leading up to the fireworks.

Musical artists include The Troubadour Project and Atlanta Rhythm Section.

Marietta

At 10 a.m., the Let Freedom Ring parade will begin at Roswell Street Baptist Church, with 2,000 participants and an estimated 30,000 spectators expected.

Following the parade, the 4th Festival in the Park will take place at Marietta Square, featuring carnival rides, vendors, crafts and an evening concert headlined by Savannah Jack.

Norcross

Much like Kennesaw’s celebration, Norcross’ holiday event, billed as “Red, White and Boom,” will be held at Lillian Webb Park on July 3.

“Get ready for an incredible fireworks display that will light up the night sky in shades of red, white and blue,” the city said in a news release. “But before the show begins, enjoy live music, delicious food, face painting and other fun activities for the whole family.”

A fireworks display is planned to close the evening at 9:30 p.m.

Powder sources

From 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., the Cobb-based city will host its July 4th celebration, cruise and fireworks display at Thurman Springs Park and the surrounding downtown district.

“Our tradition of fabulous food, fun times and fireworks began many years ago and continues today,” the city’s press release said. “Celebrate Independence Day with friends and family in downtown Powder Springs on the Fourth of July!”

A complimentary shuttle service to downtown will be provided to event attendees from Link Up Church and Powder Springs Park and Ride.

Roswell

The Roswell Area Park will be a source of entertainment and festivities for local residents, starting at 6 p.m., with a fireworks display ending the evening at 9 p.m. There will also be entertainment and specialty food trucks on site.

“I can’t wait to see everyone there,” Mayor Kurt Wilson said in a news release. “The City of Roswell is putting on the best Fourth of July celebration in the state! We have something for everyone: amazing music, great food and fun for the whole family.”

Sand sources

The city’s holiday celebration, the Stars & Stripes Fireworks Celebration, will begin at 4 p.m. in the City Springs neighborhood.

Food trucks and live music from the A-Town A-List band will be capped off with a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m.

Stone Mountain Park

Stone Mountain Park dove into the Fourth of July with a week-long event that kicked off on July 1 and is filled with fireworks, food and fun.

“Enjoy a day full of adventure with great family attractions, live entertainment during Summer at the Rock, hike the one-mile trail to the top of Stone Mountain for breathtaking views of downtown Atlanta…then stay into the evening to experience the NEW Music Across America light show,” a park press release states.

To enjoy the attractions and the light show, tickets must be purchased through the park.

Tucker

On July 3, the City of Dekalb will kick off its “Celebrate Independence Day” event at 5:30 p.m. on Main Street.

For children, a children’s area will be set up with inflatable castles, carnival games and face painting.

There will also be a DJ and live entertainment for adults, leading up to the late night fireworks show around 9:15pm.
