Serial rapist on the loose in Plumtree and Mangwe

A suspected serial rapist is at large in Plumtree and Mangwe in the southern province of Matabeleland and villagers in the areas are now living in fear.

QUOTE The alleged rapist was reportedly armed with a machete and attacked and raped women in Plumtree Town, Mpoengs, Khalanyoni, Brunapeg, Makwakwa and other places.

A resident of Plumtree Town, who wished to remain anonymous, told CITE that he did not understand why the alleged perpetrator was not arrested. The source said:

The residents of Plumtree live in fear of a rapist who cruelly beats and rapes women. He is a threat to the community and as residents of Plumtree we need answers as to why he commits all these crimes but is still a free man.

People who claimed to have seen the rapist described him as a strong, dark-skinned man.

A concerned resident recounted an incident in which the suspect reportedly attacked both an aunt and her niece, prompting the niece to flee naked and seek help. The resident said:

Rapist terrorizes women in Makwakwa. Last week he raped an aunt and her niece, starting with the aunt and forcing her niece to lie closer to her as well.

When he moved in with his aunt for the second time, the niece managed to escape naked and scream for help.

The rapist allegedly took the aunt’s phone and threatened to kill her.

Villagers from Makwakwa and Crossroads chased the suspect but were unable to catch him after losing his footprints.

Some residents claimed the perpetrator may be from Ngwizi and had previously lived in South Africa and Botswana, where he allegedly committed similar crimes. One concerned resident said:

Women and children are now accompanied by their brothers or husbands. You can no longer walk alone because this man is everywhere.

Acting Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Stanford Mguni, told CITE he could not comment on the matter as investigations were still ongoing.
