Man allegedly broke into house in Marion County and attacked person inside

MARION COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A man is in custody after allegedly breaking into a Pee Dee home and assaulting a person inside on Monday.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said 46-year-old Robert Willis Jr. was taken into custody following an incident on Highway 908. Officers were called there just after 9 a.m. for a reported burglary.

According to officials, Willis entered the home without permission and “brutally assaulted a female resident.”

A neighbor was able to intervene, but the Willis reportedly fled in their truck.

The sheriff’s office said officers found Willis nearby a short time later and arrested him. Willis is also accused of assaulting a Marion County Detention Center employee while being booked.

Willis is charged with first-degree burglary, grand larceny and two counts of second-degree assault.

According to records, he has been held at the Marion County Detention Center since Monday evening.
