Man and dog electrocuted in bizarre accident after storms

A freak accident in Anne Arundel County claimed the lives of a man and his dog, who were electrocuted during Sunday’s Severn storms. “It’s unbelievable,” said Robert Hook. Firefighters said a tree fell in the Maryland Avenue area, knocking down live wires that landed on a metal fence that spanned several properties. “That fence was electrified by one of the live wires. Next to that fence was a dog that was unfortunately electrocuted. The dog owner heard the electrocution and ran out to rescue the dog and was unfortunately electrocuted as well,” Anne Arundel County firefighter Steven Bishop told 11 News. A 31-year-old man and his dog both lost their lives. Bishop called it a rare occurrence, but one that warrants a warning. “Never trust a dangling wire. If you see a wire, never try to touch it. Never try to cross it. Call either (Baltimore Gas and Electric) or the fire department or the police to say those wires are on the ground,” Bishop told 11 News.Across the block off Disney Avenue, a tree branch smashed the roof of a home that is now marked “unsafe.””It was definitely like a microburst because you couldn’t see the house across the street,” said Jennifer Little, a resident. “You couldn’t see that because of the rain. It only lasted, what, two, three minutes, and then it was gone.”Cedarhurst residents said the storm swept through and lasted only moments, but it left a trail of devastation in their tight-knit neighborhood.”It’s sad, like Jen said, he’s young. It’s just a sad thing, him and his dog. It’s just a sad day,” said Jeff Wunder, a local resident.Bishop’s other reminder is about hurricane season. He wants people to make emergency plans and “emergency bags” before storms arrive. He said to be extra vigilant during any type of storm.

“It’s unbelievable,” said Robert Hook.

Firefighters said a tree fell in the Maryland Avenue area, bringing down live wires that landed on a metal fence that spanned several properties.

“This fence was electrified by one of the power cables. There was a dog next to this fence that was unfortunately electrocuted. The dog owner heard the electrocution and ran out to rescue the dog. Unfortunately, he was also electrocuted in the process,” Anne Arundel County Firefighter Steven Bishop told 11 News.
