Very hot and humid with some storms

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A First weather warning day Today we can expect extreme heat and high humidity, and some thunderstorms are also expected throughout the day.

Today it will again be very hot and humid with temperatures around 30 degrees, but in some areas it will also be around 38 degrees. Heat warning is in effect from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. for some counties south of I-40. Be sure to limit time spent outdoors and stay hydrated, as staying outside too long in this heat can be dangerous.

In addition to the heat, we’ll have to dodge showers and thunderstorms for the rest of the day. Some thunderstorms could be strong and produce heavy downpours that could lead to localized flooding and gusty winds. Most of the thunderstorm activity will be south of I-40 this afternoon. The rain should clear up this evening and into the overnight hours.

All of that rain is coming ahead of a cold front that will drastically lower our temperatures and humidity. Highs on Monday will be between 27 and 30 degrees under bright, sunny skies, and with the much lower humidity it will be more bearable outside. Lows will drop to 10 degrees overnight in some areas.

Just as quickly as it cools down, it heats up again. On Tuesday and Wednesday, temperatures will be between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius, and the heat index will be over 38 degrees Celsius again. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will all Weather days of the first warning for more dangerous heat.

Thursday, July 4, will remain hot and humid, and we also expect scattered showers and thunderstorms. This chance of rain will continue through Friday and the first half of the weekend.
