Suspect shot dead after armed robbery and chase

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an incident in which a suspect was shot and killed by police officers following a reported armed robbery and subsequent chase.

According to a press release from the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 call came in at 9:55 p.m. Thursday about an armed robbery at the Marathon Store on Highway 80 East, across from Pojo’s.

When officers arrived at the scene, “they observed the suspect vehicle, a large U-Haul moving truck, refusing to stop,” the press release said.

The officers then pursued the truck and tried to force it to stop.

“The suspect intentionally struck several police vehicles and nearly struck several officers who were getting out on foot,” the press release states.

The pursuit continued onto Highway 301 North, where officers and Georgia State Troopers who joined the pursuit were able to stop the vehicle, which crashed into some power lines. The crash caused a power outage in the area.

During the incident, several police officers fired shots, killing the suspect at the scene near Clito Road and Highway 301 North.

The GBI was called to the scene and will be the lead agency investigating the incident.

Highway 301 North between Clito Road and Old River Road North was closed overnight to allow investigators access to the crime scene.
