How to trigger fusion accidents in Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance

Fusion accidents are rare in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. This guide will tell you how to trigger them intentionally and which demons are only obtainable this way. Fusion is an essential part of the game and you need to get to grips with it to get the best possible demons for your party.

Preparations

Before attempting to trigger a fusion accident, we recommend that you make the following preparations:

  • Learn the mutative element. This costs 100 Fame and is found in the Doctrine tree. This is a toggleable miracle that greatly increases your chances of triggering a Fusion Accident.
  • Recruit or summon a demon you do not want in your party. This is the demon you will use in each merge until you achieve the desired result.
  • Stock up on Macca. For fusing demons, you want to use Dyad Compendium Fusion rather than the one you actually use in your active party, and this costs a lot of Macca at higher levels.
  • Learn all three levels of the Summoner’s Hospitality Miracle. This is purely optional, but allows you to fuse demons at a lower cost, making your Macca reserves last longer.

How to trigger fusion accidents in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance

Fusion accidents only happen on full and new moons. From then on, unfortunately, it’s all down to luck, you just have to keep fusing demons until you trigger the fusion accident. Without the Miracle Mutative Element, the chances are pretty slim, but with it, you should experience a fusion accident fairly often.

The lunar cycle progresses naturally as the game progresses, so if you’re not already in either phase, spend some time walking around an area of Da’at until you reach either phase. Then head to the nearest Leyline source and enter the World of Shadows. Time doesn’t advance here, so you can stay here as long as you like without worrying about having to wait for the moon to move back into the required phase.

Remember to save the game! Chances are you won’t get the demon you want the first time, and the demons you get from fusion accidents are generally of lower quality than the ones you can intentionally create yourself. If you’re after the demons you can only create from fusion accidents, it may take a while before you see them.

Try to fuse with demons that are roughly the same level or slightly higher than the demon you’re trying to create. While it’s not guaranteed, you’ll generally fuse with a demon the same level as the one you’re trying to create. If you don’t get what you want after depleting your Macca supply, reload your save and try again.

Fusion Accident exclusive demons

Three of the new demons introduced in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance can only be acquired through fusion accidents:

Hare of Inaba is the lowest level Fusion Accident exclusive at level 31.

Amabie is another Fusion Accident exclusive and is level 39.

Kinmamon is the last exclusive Fusion Accident Demon and is level 68.

It may take a while to fuse these demons, especially if Hare of Inaba and Amabie are around the same level, but perseverance will eventually pay off.
