Carol Stream shooting: No charges against police officers involved in Isaac Goodlow’s death, DuPage County prosecutor says

CAROL STREAM, Ill. (WLS) – The DuPage County District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday that no charges will be filed against any of the Carol Stream police officers involved in the fatal shooting of Isaac Goodlow earlier this year.

“Every case in which a police officer uses deadly force, whether on or off duty, must be carefully and thoroughly investigated. Such scrutiny is necessary to ensure the protection of the civil rights of those involved and to maintain public confidence in law enforcement,” District Attorney Bob Berlin said in a statement.

Berlin said he decided not to press charges against police after a thorough investigation into the fatal shooting.

He further said he wanted to dispel “misinformation” about the incident.

Berlin said authorities reviewed the bodycam video that was released after Goodlow’s family claimed it had been doctored. He said the review found the video had not been altered in any way.

Although Goodlow’s family claimed Goodlow was in bed when he was shot, Berlin said the footage contradicted that statement.

He also said that no taser was used on Goodlow.

Berlin said none of the officers involved in the incident had been disciplined for the use of force.

Goodlow was shot and killed by police on February 3 in the 200 block of East St. Charles Road in Carol Stream.

Police said Goodlow’s girlfriend called them to the scene because of a suspected domestic incident.

Police said they tried to reach Goodlow for 45 minutes and then a key fell into their hands and six officers entered the apartment. Within seconds, he was shot and killed by police in what appeared to be a bedroom.

Goodlow’s family is expected to speak with lawyers on Wednesday afternoon.
