IT employee: IT employee dies in bicycle accident on way to pick up child | News from Kolkata

Kolkata: A 46-year-old IT employee died while on his way to pick up his daughter on a relative’s house early Sunday morning after his bike was hit by an unidentified vehicle on Chaulpatty Road. Shibaji Bhattacharya, whose wife had passed away a few years ago, lived with his 16- and 11-year-old daughters and his mother in a residential complex on Canal South Road. On Saturday evening, the man and his younger daughter left the house on a bike. According to police, Bhattacharya left his daughter with a relative before heading to a friend’s house in Sealdah. The elder child was at home with his grandmother. At around 12.50 am, Bhattacharya was on his way to pick up his daughter when he met with an accident. Since the front of the bike is demolished, police suspect that the other vehicle that fled the accident spot collided head-on with the bike. “We are trying to trace the other vehicle using CCTV,” an official said. Some locals rushed to the spot after the accident and alerted police. Police took the critically injured Bhattacharya to NRS Medical College and Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. A friend of the victim, who was seen outside his house on Sunday, said, “He raised his two children alone. Now there is no one to take care of the children. The children too are yet to come to terms with the fact that their father has died. His mother is inconsolable. We want the police to find and punish the driver of the vehicle that killed him.” In another accident, a motorcyclist and his pillion passenger were injured after the vehicle rammed a lamp post on Anandapur Road at around 12.20 am on Sunday. Police said Sourabh Adhikary and Prashanta Mistry, both 26 and residents of Adarshanagar, were admitted to CNMC Hospital with injuries.
