A convicted felon was arrested for possession of weapons

WEST HAVEN, Connecticut (WTNH) – A convicted felon is in custody after firearms and narcotics were discovered in a car crash in West Haven, police said.

West Haven Police officers were called to a car crash in the area of ​​First Ave. and Maple St. around 8 p.m. Saturday. At the scene, police found a two-car collision that required a tow truck.

While investigating the accident, an officer noticed a loaded Glock 17 weapon with a 24-round magazine in one of the vehicles. The weapon also had a “Glock Switch,” a tiny tool that allows for continuous firing of shots.

Taken into custody was 32-year-old Brandunn Ellis, who fled on foot from police officers who attempted to arrest him.

After a successful chase, officers also found a second firearm and drugs in a “shoulder bag” on Ellis.

As a convicted felon with previous weapons offenses, Ellis was prohibited from owning weapons. He was charged with the following:

  • Two cases of criminal possession of weapons
  • Two counts of weapons in a motor vehicle
  • Possession of a high capacity magazine
  • Two cases of illegal weapons transfer
  • Criminal attempt to possess a submachine gun
  • Possession of narcotics with the intent to sell
  • Disability of an official

He is being held on $250,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Milford Superior Court in the next few days.
