Woman killed in jet ski accident on Lake Ontario

According to police, a woman died in a jet ski accident on Lake Ontario on Saturday evening.

At approximately 7:15 p.m., the Monroe County Sheriff’s Marine Unit, along with several fire departments and the U.S. Coast Guard, responded to a distress call regarding a capsized jet ski with two occupants just west of the Irondequoit Bay Inlet.

Rescue crews were able to quickly locate the jet ski and the man riding it. He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Coast Guard was able to find the rider a short time later. She was also taken to Strong, where she was pronounced dead.

Authorities are still investigating but assume that rough seas were a cause of the accident.
