Weather warning yellow: The yellow warning ends on Thursday evening as the heat subsides

Thursday was our fourth day in a row with temperatures above 30 degrees, and that should have been it. The yellow warning will remain in effect until late this evening, for a few more hours of temperatures above 30 degrees and at least the threat of some storms, mainly south of Rochester into the southern Finger Lakes. As the sun goes down, the heat will subside and the threat of storms will end as well.

The big heat on Friday will be over as a cold front moves through, but that front will also produce some showers and thunderstorms. The greatest threat for thunderstorms should again be in the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier, as the front will cross that area in the afternoon when temperatures are at their highest and most energy for thunderstorms is present. While a few showers or thunderstorms are possible closer to Rochester, we expect to see a nice clearing in the afternoon and evening as that front has already dissipated.

The weekend remains unsettled as the same front moves north again on Saturday as a warm front, bringing us heat, humidity and instability again, so occasional showers and a few storms are possible. On Sunday, the front moves south again as a cold front, again increasing the risk of storms as it moves through. The front looks to move in the afternoon, which will cause the risk of storms to be concentrated in the second half of the day, but that could change as the timing of the front’s passage changes. Check back and watch News10NBC if you have outdoor plans on Sunday that could be affected by storms on Sunday.
