Worker killed in accident at Jwaneng diamond mine

On June 17, a worker at the Jwaneng diamond mine in Botswana was killed in a crane accident, according to an online statement from mine owner Debswana.

“An employee of one of our business partners was fatally injured,” the statement said. “Investigations into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing and relevant parties are being informed accordingly. Debswana fully supports the family and we respectfully request that they be given the respect and privacy they deserve during this difficult time.”

Debswana is a joint venture between De Beers and the Government of Botswana.
