Weather warning: Very hot and thunderstorms in the afternoon | WETM

ELMIRA, NY (WETM) – There has been a lot of talk about the possibility of very hot weather and the threat of rain showers, and today it all definitely came to pass.

There were thunderstorms with small hail and lightning in the Twin Tiers tonight and there is a chance of a repeat on Tuesday.

This strong high pressure system will really pack a double whammy when the Juneteenth holiday and the first day of summer arrive midweek. The southwesterly flow will bring in hot air and humidity that will push temperatures above 100 degrees and make for a very uncomfortable week. The temperature in the sun will feel like anything between 99° and 104° by Thursday. It will be dangerously hot, so you’ll need to drink plenty of fluids and check on your neighbors and take extra good care of your pets. And most importantly, take care of yourself. If you’re going to be outside for an extended period of time, make sure there’s water nearby and TAKE IT EASY!
