Schools are resuming in Fort Kent following an early morning incident

FORT KENT – Fort Kent Police have confirmed that the situation that caused school closures and delays this morning has been resolved and classes will resume at MSAD 27 at 10 a.m

The precautions were taken after an incident in which a firearm was discharged near Pleasant Street, near the area’s three schools.

Although the incident appeared to be an isolated incident, law enforcement officials asked the University of Maine at Fort Kent and MSAD 27 to either cancel or postpone school activities for the day to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Authorities said there was no ongoing threat to the public.

Police thanked the community for their cooperation during the incident and the ongoing investigation.

Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
