1 Punjab woman killed, another seriously injured in US shooting; suspect arrested | Chandigarh News

Two women from Punjab were shot in the United States by a man of Indian origin. One died and the other was seriously injured. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning in front of a house in Carteret, New Jersey.

According to US media reports, 19-year-old Gaurav Gill was arrested in connection with the case and charged with murder.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of Ms. Jasvir Kaur and the injuries sustained by Ms. Gagandeep Kaur in a shooting incident on Roosevelt Avenue in Cartaret, New Jersey. We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased,” the Indian Consulate General in New York said in a post on X on June 14.

Harinder Singh, a US-based Punjabi hailing from Nakodar, told The Indian Express that the accused Gill hails from Hussainiwala village in Nakodar while the victims are from Nurmahal in Jalandhar. The deceased, Jasvir, was 29 and married while her cousin Gagandeep Kaur is 20 years old. Gagandeep and the accused were allegedly acquainted with each other.

After the shooting, both victims were flown by helicopter to nearby hospitals, where Jasvir succumbed to her injuries. Authorities have not yet released a motive for the crime or any connection between Gill and the women.
