The building housing the Grotto restaurant sold for more than a million dollars

A downtown Buffalo building that for decades housed one of the central business district’s most legendary restaurants has attracted a new group of owners.

Investors Circle Back Holdings LLC paid $1.1 million for the building at 60 Niagara Street and the adjoining 17-space lot at 112 Franklin St. The properties were owned by Marotto Realty Corp., according to documents filed June 11 with from the Erie County Clerk’s Office.

For generations, the building at 60 Niagara Street was home to Mariotto’s DuBois Restaurant, a restaurant frequented by lawyers, judges, political leaders and businessmen.
Mariotto’s DuBois closed its doors during the Covid-19 pandemic and, for the past three years, home to The Grotto, an Italian-themed restaurant, The Grotto remains open.

The two-story building, built in 1925, measures 5,321 square feet and is nestled between Buffalo City Hall, the new Buffalo Police Headquarters and the Erie County Hall.
