Fatal motorcycle accident early Wednesday morning

The BC Highway Patrol is asking for witnesses with dashcam footage or a vehicle description.

A motorcyclist was killed in an early morning accident south of the George Massey Tunnel.

The BC Highway Patrol received a call at 6:15 a.m. about a “major accident” in the northbound lanes of Highway 99 in Delta.

According to the BC Highway Patrol, a motorcyclist collided with a car, fell onto the road and was seriously injured by the rear wheels of a semi-trailer.

The BC Highway Patrol wants to speak to the driver of the semi-trailer, who was not at the scene and may not know what happened, said Melissa Jongema, BC Highway Patrol spokesperson.

They are also asking for witnesses, including the driver or company associated with the tractor-trailer, who may have a vehicle description, license plate number or dashcam footage from or before the collision.

Anyone with information should contact the BC Highway Patrol at 604-526-9744 and reference file 2024-932.

Traffic in the tunnel to Richmond had come to a standstill with only the public transport lanes and the oncoming carriageways open. Drivers were told to expect “significant delays”.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the lanes were still closed.
