Man arrested after allegedly raping his stepdaughter

The girl consulted a social worker when she reported what happened when her mother was not at home.

A 45-year-old stepfather has been arrested by the South African Police Service (SAPS) after he allegedly gave his 17-year-old stepdaughter alcohol and later raped her while her mother was not at home.

The SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit in Thabong, Free State, is investigating a rape case after the young girl was allegedly raped by her stepfather at around 4pm on Monday.

The crime was referred to police to file charges after the victim’s mother took her daughter to the Ministry of Social Development on Tuesday for an appointment.

Mother wasn’t at home

The girl was then allowed to consult a social worker in her mother’s absence when she reported what had happened when her mother was not at home.

“Apparently, on April 6, 2024, at around 4 p.m., her mother was not at home when her stepfather gave her alcohol and she fell asleep. He approached her while she was sleeping and asked her to take off her pants. He then raped her,” said police spokesman Captain Stephen Thakeng.

After the traumatic ordeal, the girl reported the incident to her brother.

Man convicted of raping and impregnating teenage stepdaughter

Meanwhile, the Roodepoort Magistrates Court in Gauteng on Tuesday sentenced a stepfather to life imprisonment for raping and impregnating his partner’s daughter.

The rapes were committed over a long period of time. National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesman Phindi Mjonondwane said the girl did not report the rapes because the accused threatened to kill her.

“The victim was 15 years old when she reported the incidents on June 25, 2022. She claimed she had been raped since she was 11 years old,” Mjonondwane said.

“At the time of reporting, she had just given birth. The state conducted DNA and paternity testing on the defendant and the newborn child. The results were positive.”
