Armed robbery in Opa-locka leaves one dead – NBC 6 South Florida

A man was killed in a random armed robbery at an apartment complex in Opa-Locka on Saturday, police said.

Police said they found a man shot to death at the Mirage at Sailboat Cove apartment in the 1700 block of NW 142nd Lane around 8 a.m. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died. Police have not released his identity.

Due to the investigation, the complex was closed for hours while a police helicopter and a task force searched the area for the suspect.

Miami-Dade Police Detective Angel Rodriguez said one person was detained to determine their involvement. Detectives told NBC6 the shooter is still on the run and could not provide a description of the suspect.

Some neighbors expressed frustration over the crime and questioned their safety. King Jordan said he only moved into the complex this week.

“It’s kind of crazy, but we have guarded gates and the Opa-locka police stay here every night, so I don’t know what the problem is,” Jordan said. “But knowing that someone was shot kind of makes me question the move.”
