Baltimore man arrested after hit-and-run incident in Arlington

Report: Verbal argument escalated, then the perpetrator ran towards the victim and caused serious injuries

The Arlington County Sheriff’s Department announces the arrest of the driver in a hit-and-run investigation. Ronnell Blakeney, 33, of Baltimore is charged with aggravated assault and hit-and-run. He is being held without bail in the Arlington County Detention Center.

On May 23rd, at around 7:12 p.m., police were called to the 3300 block of 22nd.and N. Street for the report of a hit and run accident. Preliminary investigation indicates the suspect was driving at a high rate of speed while delivering groceries in the area.

The victim, an adult male, approached the suspect’s vehicle and a verbal argument ensued over the suspect’s driving, during which the suspect struck the victim with the vehicle, causing serious injuries. The suspect fled the scene of the accident in his vehicle after the accident.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. He is still in the hospital and continues to recover from the injuries he sustained in the accident.

After the accident was reported, investigators immediately launched a critical accident investigation. A review of evidence at the scene and interviews with witnesses led investigators to identify the suspect. He was taken into custody on the evening of June 5, 2024.
