Isolated thunderstorms will pass this evening, on Thursday it will be windy and cooler

The last of the showers and storms should leave our area around midnight, leaving mostly clear skies for the rest of the night. Light west and northwest winds will continue to blow, and temperatures will drop to around 10 degrees Celsius by morning. A low pressure system directly to the north will influence our weather on Thursday. While we’ll start with sunny weather, clouds will quickly form and take over as temperatures rise. Clouds will likely prevail throughout the afternoon, limiting afternoon warming and making for a cool day by June standards. It will also be another windy day, with gusts up to 30 mph. There may be a few drops, but no measurable precipitation is expected. Temperatures are expected to be a good ten degrees below average, with highs in our area around 15 degrees Celsius.

An upper trough area and a cold front to the north will keep some additional clouds in the country.

The coolest weather will be short-lived as the sun returns on Friday. The upper-level low will lift and flatten out a bit to the north, but its proximity will give us a generally cooler pattern all weekend long. On the surface, the high pressure system will stretch across the Plains to the Gulf Coast and won’t push much east through the weekend. That means northwesterly flow will prevail. Friday will at least get closer to average again, with highs in the mid-70s, but it will be another windy day. Before the ridge arrives, we could see another front move through from the west. Some showers could return to the area Friday night and linger until at least early Saturday before moving out. That would leave the rest of the weekend dry with a mix of sun and clouds and highs in the lower 70s. Temperatures could be more seasonal again early next week, with some nice weather on Monday before another front arrives with more showers and thunderstorm chances by next Tuesday. The upper level pattern appears to be shifting to a warmer one over the course of next week, potentially bringing more typical June warmth to the state.
