Buffalo Police Spend Nearly $2 Million on New Cars

It seems the city of Buffalo has been on a spending spree lately.

Just a few months ago, she paid more than $1 million to buy a street from a private developer. Today, the city is spending about $2 million to equip the Buffalo Police Department with a few new cars.

Although some will argue that the street purchase was unnecessary, there is no doubt that the BPD needs new police cars.

For several years, police officers have complained about the lack of vehicles for their patrols, which adds to the poor condition of the cars that the city has been able to deploy. You only have to drive past the Buffalo Police Garage on Seneca Street to see the large number of police cars in various states of disrepair.

According to WKBW-TV, the city is using capital bonds to purchase new vehicles from the department for about $1.9 million.

These vehicles will include new Ford Explorers, a few Ford F-150 pickup trucks and a few unmarked vehicles.

Speaking with Channel 7 staff, Buffalo City Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia mentioned that the department does several things beyond patrols that require vehicles, from community events to traffic control. traffic ; not everything requires a standard patrol car.

If everything goes according to the city’s schedule, these new cars should come online by the end of summer 2024.
