Man killed by stray bullet in California neighborhood

The family of the man shot and killed in the California neighborhood this week says he was watching television when bullets blasted through their door, killing him. It happened Wednesday night at a home on Grand Avenue. “You’d have to have a high-powered rifle to do that,” said Caswell DeBerry IV, 76, pointing to two bullet holes in his front door. DeBerry said he was in the back of the house when the bullets struck and killed his nephew, 52-year-old Robert William Crosson Jr., while Crosson sat in a chair watching basketball with another man and eating pizza. DeBerry said he came from the back of the house after hearing gunshots. “I looked over and said, ‘Oh my God. What happened?’ “He heard two shots, that’s all we heard,” DeBerry said. DeBerry said his nephew was shot in the head and chest. Louisville police told WLKY News the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. “The police had to move the body to the side so they could go inside,” DeBerry said, adding that his nephew’s shooting could have been an accident — something like that. He believes someone fired a gun in a nearby park without intending to hit his house. “One of the officers said it was a random shooting. That’s what they called it. You know, someone was shooting wildly,” he said. So far, no one has been arrested in the case. May was a deadly month in Louisville. There were 21 homicides in the city, according to Louisville police.
