Jeremy Renner to star in Knives Out sequel after snowplow accident

US actor Jeremy Renner is the newest star in the cast of Rian Johnson’s crime thriller “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery”.

The Avengers star continues his comeback after a serious snow plowing accident last year in which he suffered over 30 broken bones.

The 53-year-old was injured on January 1, 2023, while trying to help his nephew, who was trying to free his car from the snow when the snow plow began to roll down the slope, a police report said.

Renner will play the role of recurring detective Benoit Blanc alongside Daniel Craig in the new crime thriller, which is scheduled to hit theaters in 2025.

Cast members already announced include British actor Josh O’Connor, who starred in “Challengers” and “The Crown,” Irish star Andrew Scott from “Ripley” and “Fleabag,” Kerry Washington from “Scandal,” Glenn Close from “Fatal Attraction” and Cailee Spaeny from “Priscilla.”

Last week, filmmaker Johnson announced on X that the film is “close to starting production,” while plot details have yet to be revealed.

After his accident, Renner was flown by helicopter to a hospital in Reno, Nevada and spent some time in intensive care.

The actor, known for his role as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starred in drama series Mayor Of Kingstown after recovering from his injuries, while Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is reportedly his first film since the incident.
