One dead and one arrest after car crash involving stolen car on US 301 in Cumberland County

One person was killed and another was arrested after a police chase ended in a crash on U.S. Highway 301 in Cumberland County.

At 12:30 a.m., Fayetteville Police officers located a car that had been reported stolen in Fayetteville.

According to police, officers attempted to stop the car when the driver fled the scene. While officers were pursuing the car, it crashed on US 301 near Tom Starling Road, just outside the Fayetteville city limits. While attempting to flee, the driver collided with another car.

According to police, the driver got out of the car and tried to flee on foot. Police determined that one of the suspect’s passengers was thrown from the car in the accident and died.

Investigations underway after accident in Cumberland County

The suspect and another passenger in the stolen car were taken to the hospital for evaluation. The driver of the car that was struck was not seriously injured but was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for evaluation.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal crash. The Fayetteville Police Department’s Internal Investigations Division will look into the officers’ actions.

Part of Tom Starling Road was closed but has now reopened.
