59-year-old woman dead after fire at Braintree apartment complex – Boston 25 News

BRAINTREE, Massachusetts – A 59-year-old woman died in a fire at an apartment complex in Braintree Thursday evening.

Acting Braintree Fire Chief Fred Viola said the fire broke out around 10:30 p.m. on McCusker Drive.

When emergency crews arrived at the complex, they saw light smoke coming from the building, but by the time they found the fire outbreak, the building was already fully engulfed in flames.

A 59-year-old woman was found on a bed in a rear bedroom; she was pronounced dead at the scene, firefighters said.

The fire chief said no other tenants were injured, but 25 people were homeless.

A firefighter suffered cuts but did not have to be taken to hospital.

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
