Kevin Spacey is facing a civil lawsuit in the UK over sexual harassment charges

Kevin Spacey is facing a civil lawsuit in the UK over sexual assault.

The 64-year-old actor is facing trial in Britain after being sued by a Briton who accused him of sexual assault.

The man, who could not be identified for legal reasons, claimed Spacey sexually assaulted him in August 2008, adding that he suffered “psychiatric harm and other financial loss” as a result of the alleged assault. The House of Cards actor has denied the allegations.

A trial date has not yet been set, but documents are expected to be exchanged early next year.

Spacey was charged in Britain in 2022 with nine sexual offenses, including indecent assault and sexual assault, against four men between 2004 and 2013. The actor was subsequently acquitted of all charges in 2023.

One of these plaintiffs sued Spacey separately in a civil case at the High Court in London in July 2022. Two years later, the man was awarded a “default judgment” after Spacey’s legal team failed to present his defense in a timely manner.

At a hearing on Tuesday, American Beauty’s lawyer said it was a “real mistake” by Spacey’s legal team.

Judge Jeremy Cook then agreed to overturn the sentence to ensure “injustice is avoided”. The judge found that Spacey’s lawyers had made a “serious and significant” error by failing to file his defense in a timely manner, adding: “In my view, this error should not be held against the defendant.”

According to Variety, he continued: “In the interest of justice, it is necessary that the allegations go to trial and the default judgment be set aside.”

Tuesday’s ruling came a day after Channel 4 aired a documentary featuring statements from several men who claimed to have witnessed Spacey’s inappropriate behavior. He denied the allegations in an interview with broadcaster Dan Wootton.
