The mother who triggered the Amber Alert has pleaded not guilty to the charges

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (KRQE) – Angelique Sanchez, the mother who triggered an Amber Alert in April after she was accused of kidnapping her 10-year-old son and running away with him, pleaded not guilty to the charges Friday.

Sanchez is accused of violating a custody order and failing to return her son to guardians after she lost custody of him. According to a criminal complaint, Sanchez rammed a New Mexico State Police vehicle while trying to elude authorities. Her son was in the car at the time. Sanchez was found with her son and arrested on Wednesday, April 24, near 5th and Belrose in Albuquerque. The 10-year-old was unharmed when authorities found him.

On Friday, Sanchez pleaded not guilty in court to several charges, including child abuse, aggravated assault on a peace officer and interference with custody. The state requested that she have no contact with the victim or witnesses and remain detained pending trial. A date for the trial has not yet been set.
