MassDOT worker hit and killed by car while cleaning up debris on Route 24 – Fall River Reporter

One person died after an accident on a local highway.

According to Tim McGuirk, interim director of media relations for the Massachusetts State Police, a Massachusetts DOT employee was struck by a vehicle while picking up debris outside his vehicle near Exit 28B (Route 106) on northbound Route 24 at around 9:30 p.m. Saturday. The employee suffered fatal injuries.

Massachusetts State Police personnel arrived at the scene and included Troop D, Plymouth County Criminal Investigation Division, Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Section (CARS), and Crime Scene Services Section.

The vehicle that hit the worker remained at the scene.

For the safety of motorists and emergency personnel, all northbound lanes were closed from approximately 10:30 p.m. until 1:20 a.m., when the investigation of the accident scene was completed.

The case remains under investigation by the Plymouth County Criminal Investigation Department.
