One dead after head-on collision in Covington, state police say

The crash killed 25-year-old Jonathan Brister of Covington. State police said the accident occurred around 10:15 a.m. on LA Highway 21 near Highway 1083.

COVINGTON, Louisiana – According to Louisiana State Police Troop L, a man was killed following a head-on collision in Covington Friday morning.

The crash killed 25-year-old Jonathan Brister of Covington. State police said the accident occurred around 10:15 a.m. on LA Highway 21 near Highway 1083.

According to police, Brister was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze northbound. At the same time, a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling southbound when Brister “crossed the center line and collided head-on with the Chevrolet Silverado,” the news release said.

Brister was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was taken to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

State police said the driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was wearing a seatbelt and suffered moderate injuries. He was also taken to a nearby hospital.

The investigation is ongoing and toxicological samples have been taken from both drivers.
