The 71-year-old woman was pronounced dead in hospital. The other woman, 44, was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, police said.

A neighbor told PIX11 News that the SUV accused of hitting the women also struck his white van parked nearby.

“I heard a crash, a really loud crash, and then I immediately heard the sirens and came out,” he said.

According to authorities, the SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed.
