Beware of fake news! The Thai police’s bulletproof vests are “not made of plywood”

The department issued the statement shortly after photos and quotes from the page of a Sakon Nakhon police officer were reposted on the Facebook page “Yak Dung Diew Jud Hai Return Part 6” (“If you want to be famous, we can arrange it”).

Police officer from Sawang Police Station Dan Din had posted a photo of a Royal Thai Police vest marked “Advanced Armour” as a hard shell vest. This photo was accompanied by another image showing a section of the vest with plywood inside.

While sharing these photos, the page claimed there was obvious corruption in the procurement of these vests, but it had apparently failed to verify an announcement made by the Sawan Dan Din police station a day earlier.

On Saturday, it was announced that photos of the bulletproof plywood vests shared by Police Sergeant Chutchon Sriphet were fake.
