Texan arrested after fatal accident in southwest Nebraska

LINCOLN, Nebraska (KLKN) – A Texan man has been arrested following a fatal crash in southwest Nebraska.

The Hitchcock County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Patrol responded to a crash involving two semi-trailers at the intersection of Highways 6 and 25 just before 7 a.m. Thursday.

An investigation revealed that a semi-trailer was traveling north on Highway 25, just north of Trenton, authorities said.

Authorities said the semi-trailer missed a stop sign and collided with another semi-trailer traveling west on Highway 6.

Wayne Cook, 42, of McCook was the driver of the westbound tractor-trailer; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the northbound tractor-trailer was identified as 50-year-old Keith Gesegnet of Stephenville, Texas.

He was arrested on suspicion of negligent homicide, tampering with evidence, possession of alcohol and numerous other violations of the Commercial Motor Vehicle Act.

The investigations are still ongoing.
