2 brothers and their uncle sentenced to prison for assault and battery in 2023

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Three people have been sentenced to prison following a violent attack in the Broadway-Bailey neighborhood in 2023.

According to the Erie County Prosecutor’s Office, brothers Amonti Atkins, 24, and Amari Atkins, 28, both of Buffalo, pleaded guilty to attempted murder, assault and gang assault. They were each sentenced to 12 1/2 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision.

Their uncle, Demetrius Gore, 53, of Buffalo, also pleaded guilty to second-degree assault and was sentenced to five years in prison.

Investigators say Amonti Atkins stabbed the victim in the face after an argument near the OVO Clean bottle and can recycling center on Broadway and Deshler Street. The three family members then kicked and punched the victim as she lay on the ground. Gore stomped on the victim’s face and the three continued to punch and kick her until she lost consciousness, according to the district attorney’s office.

“This was a brutally violent attack that occurred in broad daylight,” Acting Erie County Prosecutor Mike Keane said in a statement. “I hope the victim feels that justice was served by the three defendants who pleaded guilty to serious crimes and were sentenced to prison for this heinous crime.”

The victim was transported to ECMC and continues to recover in a long-term care facility.
