Dog Dies in Buffalo County House Fire

GIBBON, Neb. (KSNB) – A Buffalo County home is a total loss and a family pet was killed following a house fire Tuesday night.

The Gibbon Volunteer Fire Department, along with the Shelton and Kearney volunteer fire departments, battled the blaze near Navaho Road and 39th Road.

They responded to the home northwest of Gibbon around 8:45 p.m. and remained at the scene until around 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Gibbon Fire Chief Rick Brown said he believes a lightning strike started the fire, but the investigation is ongoing.

He said a family lived in the house but were not home when the fire broke out. Sadly, a family dog ​​died in the fire.

The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post: “Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time.”

They expressed their gratitude to the firefighters of Gibbon, Shelton and Kearney for their quick and courageous efforts.

“Your commitment to our community does not go unnoticed,” the message added.

Firefighters were back on scene Wednesday morning to put out hot spots.
