A pleasant and dry day here in mid-July

The weather has changed from very warm and humid conditions to cooler and more pleasant weather over the past 24 hours. This is due to the passage of a cold front and a large area of high pressure over Canada, which will eventually descend over the Plains and then eastward into the Midwest over the next few days. Tonight will be clear to partly cloudy with light northwest winds. The drier air will also make for a cooler night as temperatures drop to around 10 degrees Celsius. Wednesday will be a breezy and pleasant summer day with dew points around 10 degrees Celsius and afternoon highs between 21 and 25 degrees Celsius. That will be about ten degrees below long-term averages.

Few changes will accompany us through at least Thursday as the slow-moving high pressure system settles over the state. It will be another mostly sunny day with light winds and comfortable highs around 21 degrees. By Friday, the high pressure system will make its way to the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley, putting Wisconsin in the headwinds. Winds will remain light through the end of this work week while it warms up a few more degrees, reaching highs around 27 degrees. Next weekend will bring seasonal temperatures and gradually rising dew points. The high pressure system will be to our east as a weak front moves southward through Canada and settles just north of us. This could allow for the return of some showers and thunderstorms, but their location remains uncertain. Saturday should remain dry, but those low storm chances return by Sunday and continue into early next week. If you have outdoor plans, they will have limited coverage overall, but we’ll be able to provide more specific details later this week. All in all, this is a pleasant period of weather at a time of year when we usually experience the highest temperatures of the summer.
