6-year-old girl killed in Baldwin County car crash; Honduran man without legal residency papers charged with manslaughter

BALDWIN COUNTY, Alabama (WKRG) – A 6-year-old girl was killed in a car crash in Baldwin County early Monday morning, according to a spokesman for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

According to ALEA, the girl was a passenger in a 2003 GMC Yukon shortly after 3 a.m. on Monday when it left the road and overturned, causing her life-threatening injuries. She was not wearing a child safety seat at the time of the accident and was ejected from the vehicle.


The girl was later declared dead at the hospital where she was taken after the accident.

An ALEA spokesman said the accident occurred on Baldwin County 28 near George Younce Road, five miles south of Robertsdale.

LOCATION:

Zelvin G. Pavon-Gomez, 25, of Summerdale, was driving the vehicle, was injured and taken to South Baldwin Medical Center in Foley.

Pavon-Gomez was later taken to the Baldwin County Jail. He is originally from Honduras and is in the United States without papers.

He is now accused of first-degree assault, driving under the influence of alcohol and manslaughter, among other things.
