‘Should not be associated with Hindus or Sikhs’: BJP’s Laxmi Kanta condemns attack on Punjab Shiv Sena leader Sandeep Thapar

BJP leader Laxmi Kanta Chawla strongly criticised the attack on Punjab Shiv Sena leader Sandeep Thapar and urged citizens not to associate the incident with Hindus and Sikhs.

Laxmi Kanta Chawla said the attack, which took place on a busy road, was unacceptable.

“I have come from Amritsar to meet him (Punjab Shiv Sena leader Sandeep Thapar)…The government should say whether it was a Nihang or a criminal dressed like a Nihang…An attack like this taking place on a busy road is totally wrong…this incident should not be linked to Hindus or Sikhs,” BJP leader Laxmi Kanta Chawla told the news agency. On Friday, three persons attacked Punjab Shiv Sena leader Sandeep Thapar with a sword in Ludhiana, according to police. The Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner of Police said the Punjab Shiv Sena leader was attacked around 11:30 am on Friday, July 5. He assured that the accused would be identified and arrested.

“At around 11:30 am, three unidentified persons attacked Sandeep Thapar with a sword. He was injured and is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital. The accused have been identified and will be arrested soon,” DCP Ludhiana told the media.

Following the incident, police issued a red alert in the entire area and arrested two accused, Sarabjit Singh and Harjot Singh, in connection with the case.

“We have arrested two accused, Sarabjit Singh and Harjot Singh. Another accused, Tahal Singh, is still wanted. Further investigation is on,” said Ludhiana police commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal.

Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sunil Jakhar criticised the law and order situation in the state, saying Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had been callous in his governance and had hit Punjab with a wave of violence and hate crimes.

“The chief minister is camping in Jalandhar for a by-election while criminals run amok with impunity and can take the life of anyone at will,” Jakhar told the news agency. ANI.
