Rape allegation: Man arrested for sexually abusing minor girl under Pocso | News from Vadodara

Vadodara: A man accused of rape has been arrested again by the Crime Control Branch (DCB) under the Pocso Act for allegedly sexually harassing two minor girls. The case against him has been registered at Makarpura police station. The accused, identified as Pranav Mondal, was tracked down in West Bengal, where he had changed his residence and was staying at a different location. Mondal was arrested by the Manjalpur police in June after a woman filed a rape complaint against him in May. In her complaint, she said Mondal raped her by promising to marry her. The woman also alleged that he sexually harassed her minor daughters. She said she had taken Mondal’s online numerology classes in 2021 and had known him since then. He came to the city and stayed at a hotel where they met. The woman, who is interested in astrology, later wrote to the police commissioner complaining that Manjalpur PSI took money from her to arrest Mondal. The rape survivor wrote in her complaint that initially the PSI made no effort to arrest Mondal. The PSI informed her that they had not received any permission from the government to go to West Bengal and nab the accused. The police officer then demanded money to buy flight tickets to Kolkata so that Mondal could be nabbed, so she gave her Rs 80,000 through a lawyer. The complainant further said that after Mondal’s arrest on June 10, Chudasama again called her and asked her to arrange a return ticket for her, so she paid another Rs 75,000. Mondal was arrested but was released on bail within nine days. The PSI was transferred to the city police headquarters. The woman had alleged that the Manjalpur police did not file a complaint under the Pocso Act even though Mondal had abused her daughters.
